Origin of the character
「曾」のうちの「日」を除いた部分が原字で、こしきを象る象形文字。のち羨符（意味を持たない装飾的な筆画）の「口」（楷書では「日」と書かれる）を加えて「曾」の字体となる。「こしき」を意味する漢語｛甑｝を表す字。のち仮借して「かつて」を意味する漢語｛曾｝に用いる。
