Origin of the character

「曾」のうちの「日」を除いた部分が原字で、こしきを象る象形文字。のち羨符(意味を持たない装飾的な筆画)の「口」(楷書では「日」と書かれる)を加えて「曾」の字体となる。「こしき」を意味する漢語{甑}を表す字。のち仮借して「かつて」を意味する漢語{曾}に用いる。
